Assessment of the Dp 2400

Editors note – Motorola seem to be turning out radios like they are candy as of late, the digital revolution has in fact given Motorola a second wind and they’re, as usual, pushing the boundaries of the walkie talkie market. This recent two way radio the DP2400, is full fat digital and i have used it for the few weeks it’s very comparable size to numerous other of the existing two way radios, but having a different connection sort. The shape is very like other present two way radios, but we deem the cost can make a tremendous difference to small businesses and individuals, anyway here’s a very rare assessment of that radio.

A two way radio has to be able to work quickly and efficiently. They have to be uncomplicated to work with, strongly designed and multi-faceted enough to appeal to many different people. Luckily, Motorola are very excellent at fulfilling these standards. So, with that at heart, we put the DP 2400 through its paces.

THE SPECS

The clarity of digital audio is undeniable. But if you continue to prefer analogue, then don’t despair. The Dp2400 is totally comfortable handling both analogue and digital frequencies.

But there’s much more it can do besides that.

The Motorola dp2400 can even use its ‘IP Site Connect’ function to increase the capability of the radio via the Internet. In addition, the ‘capacity plus’ function can use just one-site trunking system to allow over a thousand voice or data transfer-users without adding any new frequencies. It could even use an (optional) ‘linked capacity plus’ feature (a multi-site version of that ‘capacity plus’ function) that works in tandem with the IP functionality to ensure even broader fields of communication over larger distances.

There’s even an enhanced security function.

The Motorola DP 2400 can be purchased in both VHF and UHF types.

THE PRICE

This is a reasonably priced, yet high spec, device. With the release of that DP3400, we can reasonably expect the purchase price to drop a bit more also soon, but probably not by an implausible amount, as both models do seems to concentrate on slightly different areas.

Overall, it does look like Motorola are offering a fantastic radio-based product for your hard earned money, yet again.

THE PERFORMANCE

The design is hardy and utilitarian; this will be the type of two way radio a security guard or professional soldier might use. Its tough, rectangle edged and no-nonsense, however it still looks modern and specialist. Over this, the Dp2400’s ease of use makes the simplicity of that design an ideal marriage of model and operation.

As with nearly all of Motorola’s designs, the Motorola dp2400 is a robust little doohickey. The bodywork is so tightly sealed, in fact, that it’s almost completely dust and sand proof and has a water protection rating of IP55 (which means you can use it in the rain, but you probably can’t take it swimming).

The audio performance of the Motorola dp2400 is nothing short of wonderful. It even adjusts the sound levels to compensate for background noise automatically, much like the iphone.

In fact, so high performance is this 2 way radio, that it actually meets US military standard 810 C D E F and G.

The only negative we could find was that the look was somewhat bulky plus the battery was a little heavy, however, the battery life is so good that we really don’t mind. Besides, it’s reassuring to be completely sure that you aren’t about to lose the radio (you would soon notice if you ever dropped it).

As an optional extra, you can even obtain a function which will interrupt an existing signal so they can deliver vital information without waiting for a message terminate.

THE VERDICT

It actually does seem as if Motorola have thought of the lot for this radio. What we’ve got here is a radio that is pretty close to perfection. It appears to do anything you could probably want it to and, when ‘pimped out’ with all the added extras, it will surely do a lot more besides.

There aren’t really any downsides with this walkie talkie, it works extremely well, is pretty much top of the line in its value range and is bang up to date technically. What more can you ask for?
